Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the Yanig Android application published by Rick Mackay Web Application Services (“we,” “us,” or “our”). It explains what information Yanig accesses, what is stored locally, what is transmitted when the app retrieves public earthquake information, and what choices you have.

2. What Yanig does — and does not do

Yanig is a guidance, reminder, earthquake-information, and preparedness application. Its primary purpose is to help users find Google’s built-in Android Earthquake Alerts setting and remember to re-check it.

• Yanig does not detect earthquakes.
• Yanig does not generate or send Google earthquake alerts.
• Yanig cannot read or verify whether your Android earthquake-alert toggle is currently on.
• Any “on,” “off,” “not sure,” or similar status shown by Yanig is based on your own answer and saved timestamp.
• Yanig is an unofficial community application and is not affiliated with PHIVOLCS, DOST, NDRRMC, Google, or Android.

3. Personal data we do not collect through developer systems

Yanig does not require an account and does not send your locally saved app profile or check-in history to Rick Mackay Web Application Services. We do not operate a backend account database for Yanig.

Yanig does not intentionally collect through developer-operated systems:

• your name, email address, phone number, or account credentials;
• contacts, photos, videos, files, microphone recordings, or camera data;
• precise GPS location or background location;
• advertising identifiers for ad targeting;
• analytics profiles or behavioral advertising data;
• payment information; or
• your locally stored family-plan notes, preparedness checklist, alert-check answers, or post-quake check-in answers.

Yanig contains no advertising SDK and no analytics SDK by design. If this changes in a future release, this policy and the Google Play Data safety declaration will be updated before the changed behavior is released.

4. Information stored locally on your device

Yanig may store the following information locally so the app can remember your choices and provide offline functionality:

• selected language;
• selected Philippine province or general area;
• alert radius and earthquake magnitude-filter preferences;
• re-check reminder interval and reminder-related state;
• onboarding progress and selected or detected phone-brand guide;
• your self-reported earthquake-alert setting result and the date/time you checked it;
• go-bag checklist progress;
• family preparedness plan text that you enter;
• post-quake “Did you get an alert?” answers and local tally;
• the latest successfully retrieved earthquake records needed for offline viewing; and
• other app preferences needed for Yanig to function.

These values are intended to remain on your device. Yanig includes a View stored data function and a Delete all data function so you can inspect and remove the values the app keeps.

5. Device information used locally

To choose the most relevant setup instructions, Yanig may read basic Android-provided device information such as manufacturer or brand and may check locally whether Google Play Services appears to be available. This information is used to select a device guide or unsupported-device explanation.

Yanig does not use this local device information to create an advertising profile, and it is not intentionally sent to Rick Mackay Web Application Services.

6. Internet access, earthquake data, and third-party services

Yanig uses internet access to retrieve public earthquake information, including data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The app may also open external websites when you choose to view official or additional information, including PHIVOLCS, HazardHunterPH, USGS, and Google/Android help pages.

Important network privacy note: when any app connects to an external internet service, that service and the network infrastructure carrying the request may receive standard technical information needed to complete the connection, such as an IP address, request time, and basic connection metadata. Rick Mackay Web Application Services does not receive or store that network information merely because Yanig makes a direct request to a third-party public data service.

Third-party websites and services are governed by their own terms and privacy practices. You should review those policies if you choose to use or open them.

7. Android permissions and system capabilities

Depending on Android version and device support, Yanig may use:

• Internet access — to retrieve the public earthquake feed and open web resources.
• Notifications — to show the re-check reminder you configure.
• Boot completed / run-at-boot capability — to restore a scheduled local reminder after the phone restarts.
• Alarm scheduling — to schedule the local re-check reminder. When exact alarm scheduling is not available or permitted, Yanig may use an inexact schedule instead.

Yanig does not request location permission for its province-based features.

8. Location and province selection

Yanig does not request precise or approximate Android location permission. You manually select a province or general area. That selection can be used locally to mark your province on the map, calculate approximate event distance, and apply the radius filter you choose.

Your selected province is not intended to be transmitted to Rick Mackay Web Application Services.

9. Notifications and reminder scheduling

If you enable Yanig’s re-check reminder, the app stores the reminder preference and scheduling information locally. The reminder is intended to prompt you to re-check the Android earthquake-alert setting after the interval you selected.

Yanig’s reminder is not an earthquake warning. It does not indicate that an earthquake is happening or about to happen.

10. Data retention and deletion

Local Yanig data remains on the device until one of the following occurs:

• you change or reset the relevant value;
• you use Yanig’s Delete all data function;
• you clear the app’s storage through Android Settings; or
• you uninstall the app, subject to normal Android backup/restore behavior configured on your device.

Because Yanig does not maintain a developer account database for this local information, there is no separate developer server copy to delete or restore. Cached earthquake feed data may be replaced when newer data is successfully retrieved.

11. Security

Yanig minimizes privacy risk by keeping app preferences and user-entered preparedness information on-device and by avoiding accounts, advertisements, and analytics. Local data is protected primarily by the security controls of your Android device and operating system.

No method of electronic storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Keep your device updated and use an appropriate screen lock, especially if you enter personal family-plan notes in the app.

12. Children’s privacy

Yanig is a general safety and preparedness utility and is not designed to build profiles about children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a Yanig account or developer backend because Yanig does not provide such an account or backend. Parents or guardians should supervise children’s use of safety information and emergency actions.

13. International processing and external services

Yanig does not transfer your locally stored app preferences to a developer-operated cloud service. However, third-party internet services you choose to access, or that Yanig directly contacts for public data such as USGS, may operate infrastructure in other countries and may process normal network metadata under their own privacy policies.

14. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Yanig’s features, permissions, third-party services, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are published. If a future version begins collecting or sharing user data in a way not described here, the policy and applicable Google Play disclosures will be updated before that behavior is released.
